The conditional tense, known in Spanish as "el condicional o el pospreterito", is used as a means of trying to convey ideas about hypothetical or probable situations to occur if certain conditions are met. 

 

The process of creating or structuring the conditional tense is influenced by conditional endings at the end of the infinitive, as we will see below.

Conditional with Verbs ending in -er

In the set of verbs that contain in their endings -er something very characteristic occurs and consists in that when we conjugate them to form sentences in this tense we must eliminate the last vowel to proceed to add the corresponding conditional endings, let's see.

  • Podría =Poder

  • Cabrías =Caber

  • Habría =haber

  • Querríamos  =querer

  • Sabríais  =Saber

  • Verían =Ver

  • Estudiaré para mañana si ya no necesitas de mi ayuda. =I will study for tomorrow if you don't need my help anymore.

  • Si tienes sed, sírvete jugo. =If you are thirsty, pour yourself some juice.

  • Les traeré golosinas si todos se comportan adecuadamente. =I will bring you candy if everyone behaves properly.

  • Si tienes frío, enciende la calefacción. =If you are cold, turn on the heat.

  • Te llevaré al parque si ordenas tu habitación. =I will take you to the park if you clean up your room.

  • Cometerías menos errores si prestaras más atención a los consejos. =You will make fewer mistakes if you pay more attention to the advice.

  • Iría al parque si el día no estuviera nublado. =I would go to the park if the day was not cloudy.

  • Si invirtieras ese capital en mi negocio, no tendrías preocupaciones. =If you invested that capital in my business, you would have no worries.
